What is a gynecologist and When to go to a gynecologist?

From adolescence to pregnancy and then from childbirth to menopause, a woman faces many health problems throughout her life. Nowadays women need access to good and excellent quality diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and psychological counseling facilities.

What is a gynecologist?

Gynecologists are doctors who specialize in women's health by focusing on the female reproductive system. They deal with obstetrics, or pregnancy and childbirth, menstruation and fertility issues, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), hormonal disorders, and many other issues.

When to go to a gynecologist?

It is recommended to go to a gynecologist for an annual checkup and at a time when the woman is worried about symptoms such as pain in the pelvis, vulvar, and vagina or abnormal bleeding from the uterus.

The conditions most commonly treated by a gynecologist include:

• Issues related to pregnancy, fertility, menstruation, and menopause

• Family planning including contraception, sterilization, and termination of pregnancy

• Problems with tissues that support pelvic organs, including ligaments and muscles

• Tumors associated with the reproductive tract and breast cancer and pregnancy

The chances of giving birth to a healthy baby after using IVF

IVF means in vitro fertilization. It refers to the process by which a woman's eggs are collected and then fertilized outside her uterus in a laboratory. This is done in a petri dish ("in vitro" is "in glass" in Latin) where the collected eggs are kept and the washed semen containing the sperm is added to it so that one of the sperm will fertilize the egg. Fertilized eggs (embryos) are hatched in the laboratory and after proper growth; They are transferred back into the uterine cavity. IVF treatment is an auxiliary reproductive technique in which eggs are collected and fertilized in a specialized laboratory with sperm.

In some cases, sperm cells need extra help for the fertilization process. ICSI, or intracytoplasmic sperm injection, can be used, which is an auxiliary reproductive technique that involves injecting a single sperm cell into an egg. This can be done if severe male infertility, previous cryopreservation of eggs, fetal preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) or previous IVF cycle failure at the stage of pregnancy.

But before the egg can recover, the ovary must be stimulated. Without the help of fertility drugs, your body will normally mature only one (or maybe two) eggs per month. For a traditional IVF, you need a lot of eggs. Injectable fertility drugs are used to stimulate the ovaries to recover a dozen or more eggs. However, this is not always the case. IVF (aka mini IVF) with minimal stimulation, oral fertility drugs, or even low-dose injectable drugs can be used to stimulate only a few eggs.

Cycle before treatment

In the cycle before your IVF treatment is scheduled, you may be given birth control pills. It may seem backward. Aren't you trying to get pregnant?

Using birth control pills before the treatment cycle has been shown to potentially improve your chances of success. Also, it can reduce your risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and ovarian cysts. But not every doctor uses birth control pills before the cycle. Another possibility is that your doctor will tell you to track before the ovulation cycle. Most likely, she will recommend using the Ovulation Predictor Kit. However, she may also suggest basal body temperature charting, especially if you have experience cycling your cycle.

The chances of giving birth to a healthy baby after using IVF depend on various factors

Maternal age. The younger you are, the more likely you are to become pregnant and give birth to a healthy baby using your own eggs during IVF. Women 41 years of age and older are advised to consider using donor eggs during IVF to increase their chances of success.

Fetal status. Transfer of more developed embryos compared to less developed embryos (day two or three) is associated with higher pregnancy rates. However, not all embryos survive the developmental process. Talk to your doctor or other care provider about your specific situation.

Reproductive history. Women who have given birth before are more likely to become pregnant using IVF than those who have never given birth. The success rate is lower for women who have used IVF several times before but have not become pregnant.

Causes of infertility. Normal egg supply increases your chances of getting pregnant using IVF. Women who have severe endometriosis are less likely to become pregnant using IVF than women with vague infertility.

Lifestyle components. Women who smoke may get fewer eggs during IVF and may have more miscarriages. Smoking can reduce a woman's chances of success using IVF by 50 percent. Obesity can reduce the chances of pregnancy and childbirth. Alcohol, recreational drugs, excessive caffeine and the use of certain drugs can also be harmful.
